Television audiences have already had intimate access to Les Stroud. They’ve seen him make an emergency landing in the Australian Outback, forage its flat terrain with minimal tools, gnaw sap from a tree, and slurp up grubs. But although Stroud’s seven-day feats of survival are well documented on his Gemini-nominated TV series, Survivorman, fans of the show probably haven’t heard them translated into music.
In concert, Stroud selects from the diverse catalogue of songs he’s recorded on his self-titled release and EP, delicately strumming the chords of an acoustic ballad or belting out the aggressive vocals of a dark rock and roll track. Female backing vocalists coo along to acoustic melodies before Stroud rips into a blues-harmonica solo. Video content projected behind the band immerses audiences in his adventures, as do frequent storytelling moments where he shares how to outrun a jaguar or solar-power an Easy-Bake Oven.
