To celebrate its 100th anniversary as the country’s ambassador on the soccer field, the Canadian Men’s National Team will take on its cross-border rivals, the United States. The match will mark not only the end of a century but also marks the start of the teams’ FIFA World Cup qualification at the soccer-specific BMO Field, which rendered obsolete two-sport stadiums that housed soccer and soccer-ball-eating contests. The match is set between two rounds of FIFA World Cup 2014 qualifying matches; after honing its footwork in the Centennial Match, the Canadian team will tear into its second round of qualifiers against Cuba, Honduras, and Panama.
