As profiled in the Toronto Star, The Mad Italian’s owner Eli Turkienicz designed the Zazzu hot pizza cone after the popular culinary concept took off in Italy. Unlike messier triangular slices that might be mistaken for edible pie chart components, Zazzus assemble recognizable pizzeria toppings inside an easily toted crispy cone. Dining partners can debate the merits of the menus’ many hot cone varieties, such as the turkey and pesto or the Tuscan tuna crowned with both mozzarella and parmesan. Accompanying side salads marry crisp lettuces and vinaigrette in munching ceremonies that bring eaters tears of joy, and soup-of-the-day selections include choices such as minestrone and pasta fagioli. Hot cones are simple to carry out or, in mild weather, can be enjoyed on the breezy patio seating that distinguishes the Bayview location’s modern facade.
