Described in the Globe and Mail as “at the forefront of the local food movement,” Globe Bistro’s Executive Chef Kevin McKenna finds inspiration in global flavours to craft dishes using seasonal ingredients almost entirely sourced within Ontario. Following farm-to-fork tradition, McKenna updates the All-Ontario Tasting Menu each evening, treating tandems or two people bound within a donkey costume to a variety of fresh comestibles ranging from house-baked breads to meats butchered and dry-aged in-house. Soups and salads often showcase seasonal produce such as autumn vegetables paired with Canadian oysters or goat’s milk ricotta. Fish and meat courses sate appetites with proteins that may include elk, speckled trout, or pheasant. Dishes can be altered to accommodate dietary needs such as vegetarianism or an all mashed potato diet.
Housed in a former theatre and bowling alley, Globe Bistro’s long, multi-leveled dining room juxtaposes the erstwhile ally’s original hardwood floors and modern furnishings against ornate chandeliers and wall tapestries whose figures seem to dance in the light. During friendly weather, diners may journey onto the rooftop patio while enjoying a quaff from the bistro’s wine selection (not included in today’s deal).
